The Reason Why Most Online Businesses Fail

Most businesses fail.  And fast.

The numbers are staggering – the long-held belief is that 50% of businesses fail in the first year, and 95% fail within the first 5 years.

It doesn’t matter what type of business, where it’s located, or who’s running the show.

You start a business and the odds are stacked against you.

Well, darn the odds.

This applies to all businesses, but I’ll specifically reference online businesses from here on.

We all know how we live in times ruled by distraction and lack of focus.  Our attention spans are horribly short (can someone please explain the purpose of Vines?) and instant gratification is an entitlement.

A deadly combination.  Deadly for your business.

How do we combat this blatant disregard for the old saying “slow and steady wins the race”?

Easy.

FOCUS.

A successful online business has an incredibly simple flow chart for success.  This flow chart is the same for 6 and 7 figure businesses.  It looks like this…

Six and seven figure businesses operate like well-oiled machines, all the cogs are working together to spit out the product at the end.

For a new business, some or all of the components may be missing.  The parts that do exist are probably not fine tuned and not yet producing great results.

A common mistake that most new online entrepreneurs make is trying to perfect all parts at the same time.

This usually doesn’t end well.  There is frustration, overwhelm, confusion, and a lot of disappointment.

Some new entrepreneurs will give up their dreams of a successful online business.  They are left thinking that they can’t do.  Nothing could be further from the truth.

This is where focus comes in to play a huge part in the future success of a business.

In the beginning, by channeling all their entrepreneurial energies towards one and only one part of the equation, the dedicated business owner greatly increases their chances for success.

After mastering that first single component, the next task can be attacked.

In time, with FOCUS, dedication, determination, and a mindset that success is not only possible, but rather inevitable, any online entrepreneur can produce results in their business that they can be proud of.

You have two options at this point…

#1 – Put in the effort and take the time to master, on your own, all of the components of a successful online business.  There is no lack of information online, some free and some you’ll need to pay for, that will teach you the aspects of running a profitable online business.

#2 – FOCUS on the very first step, master it, and leave the rest for someone else to do.  You’ll start to generate an income much sooner this way.  When you are ready, you can progress to mastering the second task.

You’ll either be doing it all yourself, which in the end will cost you much more time and not save you any money (perhaps even preventing you from making money),

Or learn one component and task someone else the other parts of the equation, greatly increasing the speed of mastery.

As they say, “How do you eat an elephant?”

One bite at a time.

Success loves speed.

Successful entrepreneurs look at how they can cut down the time required to master an objective.  They concern themselves more with moving quickly to their goals than with cutting costs and attempting to do it all themselves.

Don’t lose the battle by trying to do all things yourself.  Focus on the most important task in front of you.  Learn to walk, then run.  Then move on to what’s next.
